From Makabayan Wear, this is a Kalinga handwoven necklace with beads. Each was made completely by hand. The beautiful band was woven using a backstrap loom, and the beads were hand-stitched.
In the Kalinga tribal culture, beads are very important and sacred. The precious beads were kept as family heirlooms, handed down from generation to generation and were used to adorn traditional attires to signify status and wealth.
